Everything you need to know about this non-invasive treatment for thinning hair and scalp support.

If you’ve been curious about how Procell Scalp Microchanneling works—or wondering whether it’s right for you—this post is for you. As a licensed esthetician in Marin County, California, I offer this advanced, non-invasive treatment at Ritual Skincare by Summer to help clients experiencing hair thinning or hormonal hair loss.
Below, I’m answering the most common questions I hear in the treatment room regarding the Procell Scalp Treatment—from women navigating perimenopause-related hair loss to those noticing increased shedding or a shift in texture.
Whether you’re experiencing early signs of thinning, post-stress hair changes, or just want to support your scalp’s natural health, Procell offers a clinical-grade, regenerative solution to support fuller, healthier hair at the root.
What is Procell Scalp Microchanneling?
Procell Scalp Microchanneling is a non-invasive stamping method treatment that uses fine, precise filaments paired with regenerative growth-factor serums to stimulate your scalp and reawaken dormant follicles. This helps improve circulation, nourish the root of each strand, and support long-term hair regrowth—especially when done in a series.
Who is this treatment for?
This service is ideal for anyone experiencing:
Hormonal hair thinning (during perimenopause or menopause)
Shedding from stress, illness, or medication
Early signs of male or female pattern baldness
Postpartum hair loss
Loss of density around the hairline/crown
Best results are seen in clients who’ve started noticing hair loss within the past 5–8 years. It is still possible to treat long term hair loss but more treatments may be required. Treatment not suitable for areas where hair has not grown in years (scar tissue, burned, or severely damaged follicles).
What does a treatment feel like?
The experience is gentle, focused, and calming. You may feel a mild sensation or warmth during the microchanneling process— most clients find it relaxing and report no pain during or after the session.
What areas of the scalp are treated?
Only the areas experiencing thinning or visible hair loss are treated. For most clients, this includes the hairline, temples, and center part—this is referred to as a half scalp treatment. If thinning is more widespread (covering 50% or more of the scalp), a full scalp treatment may be recommended. I’ll assess your scalp during your consultation and tailor the session to your unique needs.
Do I need to prep anything before my appointment?
Yes, just a couple of simple steps:
Come in with clean, dry hair (no products, sweat, or oils)
Avoid washing your hair for 24 hours after your session
Hair coloring can be done either 3 days before or 3 days after your treatment
How many treatments will I need?
Hair regrowth is a process, and results vary by individual. A series of 6 treatments (every 2 weeks)Â is typically recommended to support real follicle stimulation and hair density.
After your initial series, maintenance is suggested once every 6–12 months depending on your hair goals and how your scalp responds.
What about homecare—do I need products?
For optimal results yes, and it’s easy. I’ll guide you through how to use the Procell Scalp Serum (sold separately), which is packed with growth factors that nourish your follicles between treatments. You’ll apply it a few times per week starting 2 days after your session.
Supporting your scalp at home extends your results and helps keep your follicles active between visits. We will also talk about nutrition for the scalp and healthy scalp habits on your visit.
When will I see results?
You may start to notice changes in texture, density, or shedding within the first 1–2 months, with more visible results appearing as you move through your treatment series.
Hair regrowth is gradual—but real. The key is consistency and early support.
Can I pair this with other treatments or services?
Absolutely. This treatment is designed to fit into your overall self-care rhythm. It’s gentle enough to pair with other wellness and skincare treatments, as long as we space them properly. We can plan your ideal schedule together.
